In 1933, Los Angeles had its own Bonnie & Clyde: a young, dynamic and attractive couple leaving a trail of terror through a crime spree that left victims traumatized and mutilated. Burmah White, "The Blonde Rattlesnake" was a luminous platinum blonde with hypnotic blue eyes... but was she actually the cackling psychopath that the media made her out to be? In this episode we cover her crime spree as a get away driver, the subsequent trial, as well as explore the underlying psychological and neurological factors that likely played a part.

“Going Postal”, in slang terms has become synonymous with an anger management problem or, in real minimization over the years, a version of “flying off the handle.” The REAL story has much more grim origins. The docs cover the first such case in depth, and then discuss a long history of increasing work pressures, toxic work sites and how pushing workers to the edge can have dire consequences, as well as the government and workplace safety responses to this tragic phenomenon.

You asked for it, you got it - the docs review the 6 part documentary series currently streaming on MAX. This doc takes us on a virtual roller coast of "WTF" moments punctuated by conflicting stories, unreliable narrators, over-the-top personalities, abuse and neglect... all presented by the producers as a real life version of the suspense / horror movie, "The Orphan". The docs provide some real discussion of the challenges of adoption as well as a framework of attachment styles and potential trauma.

We cover the wide range of factors that can bring family members together in violence, as well as the various theories around this phenomenon and review a few of the most egregious examples that include the murdering Twins of Conyers, Georgia, The Wichita Horror Brothers, and The Irish Scissor Sisters. And yes, we will discuss the recent discussions about the Menendez Brothers.

The HBO Max documentary, Alabama Snake, is the story of a Pentecostal preacher named Glenn Summerford, who on a night in 1991 he either did -or maybe did not- attempt to murder his wife through the act of forcing her, at gunpoint, to put her hand into a box that contained venomous snakes. The docs cover the storytelling, the people involved in this crime case, and the cultural folklore phenomenon at the center of the story.

Welp, we did it. We watched this for you. That should tell you how we felt about it! This doc is a 5-part series on Netflix about landlords and roommate who murder for a variety of reasons- from sweet grannies to serial squatters, these stories are truly terrifying and there are several lessons to be learned.
136. Body Dysmorphia
This week the Doctors explore the diagnosis of Body Dysmorphic Disorder. As many as 10 million people in just the United States have some form of body dysmorphia aka body dysmorphic disorder or BDD. While there are only a very FEW crimes related to this disorder, the impact it has on those diagnosed does lead to a high level of distress that impacts their day to day life. Dr Shiloh and Dr. Scott explore the significant societal factors that are contributing to the symptoms.
135. Vintage Episode: Clifford Clinton Bombings
In this month’s vintage episode, we give share the story of Clifford Clinton, the entrepreneur and creator of “Clifton’s Cafeteria,” a historical restaurant in downtown Los Angeles. It was sort of the OG theme restaurant: Think “Rainforest Cafe” BUT the owner turns away no one due to their ability to pay.
We discuss so many terrible people on this podcast, that we want to share with our audience one of the true good guys, and the attempts on his life just because he dared make 1930’s Los Angeles a better place to live.

This week the docs look at four examples of adult presenting in college settings with fake credentials OR posing as younger students in middle and high school. Information regarding confidence men, the Dark Triad and other mental health issues are brought into focus from previous episodes as well. And of course, the docs stretch their thespian skills to the absolute limit with a short but dramatic reading from Law & Order, SVU.

Join us this week for the Netflix documentary “Long Shot,” a tightly told and engaging production that illuminates the power of perseverance and dedication. It is the story of Juan Catalan, a man wrongly accused and jailed for a murder he did not commit. His only alibi is taking his daughter to a Dodger’s game at the time the crime was committed. The docs quickly review research on eye witness testimony when talking about the weakness of the defense's case.
132. Family Annihilators
This week the docs focus on the sub category of mass killers called “Family Annihilators”. These killers' crimes are defined as the act of murdering the entire family for a specific and narrow range of reasons. The aftermath of these crimes can leave a community reeling with shock and disbelief in the stark contrast of what are many times, perpetrators who are viewed as responsible parents and even outstanding members of the community. Often, these jarring crimes are associated with financial or emotional strain, mental health problems, or revenge. We touch on a few well known cases that are recent in the news as well as some more obscure examples.
