72. The Servant Girl Murders & Crime Linkage
With CrimeCon happening in Austin, Texas this past week, the docs present a vintage, unsolved crime: The Servant Girl Murders. Dr. Shiloh describes the application of crime linkage and then Dr. Scott gives us some insight into Austin at the time in the late 1800's, before presenting each murder in the Servant Girl Murders to give the audience a chance to apply crime linkage and determine whether or not all the crimes are perpetrated by the same offender.

This week the docs cover California conservatorships and psychiatric holds (5150 WIC). Who can this happen to and is a mental health crisis the only path to conservatorship? What are the checks and balances? The docs dissect the timeline of Britney Spears' tragic saga.

In Part 1 of this two-parter, the docs cover the historical context of the term Munchausen Syndrome and Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, break down how it fits into the DSM-5 and the actual diagnostic term, Factitious Disorder. They also look at rates and risk factors, as well as the differences in behaviors with female and male perpetrators.

The doctors join Dr. Sacks and Dr. Shlosberg, criminologists and hosts of Women & Crime and Direct Appeal, to examine the mysterious stalking and death of Cindy James. In the Summer of 1985, Los Angeles was held in the grip of terror. The Night Stalker, Richard Ramirez, struck without rhyme or reason and without any consistent victimology. No one was safe and everyone was scared. We discuss some lesser know facts of the case, while highlighting the victims' lives and exploring how the Satanic Panic of the 80's fueled the flames during an already hot, cruel summer.

In this Behind the Couch session from our Patreon feed, we teamed up with our fellow Angelenos & OG podcast friends, Tammie & Brice from Hollyweird Paranormal to revisit the Lizzie Borden lore. Although Dr. Scott really wanted to focus on the 1975 made-for-TV movie, The Legend of Lizzie Borden, we go deeper into her family's history to uncover two more acts of Familicide and Hollyweird Paranormal gives the details about spooky goings-on at the Borden house in Fall River, Mass.

True Crime & Disney- two of our favorite things! To mark the month we were supposed to be in Orlando, we decided to move ahead with an episode dedicated to all things tragic in the Kingdom of Disney. We start on a light note, talking about the reasons why adults love Disney and adults behaving badly at the theme parks. Then we cover the disappearance of Disney Cruise Line employee, Rebecca Coriam, the family murder at Celebration Florida, and the murder of original Mouseketeer, Dennis Day.
