17. Falsifying Crimes & Personality Disorders
In rare fashion, the doctors are on the heels of this week’s biggest news story, the Jussie Smollett case out of Chicago. At the release of this recording, actor and singer Jussie Smollett has been indicted and arrested for orchestrating his own hate-fueled attack and falsely reporting this to police.

This episode bring us all back to our favorite true crime subject, serial killers. And not just your average serial killer, but the special breed of trucker serial killers. Dr. Scott & Dr. Shiloh go into how crime analysts started realizing that highway serial killings was a nationwide epidemic before exploring specific killers featured in the docuseries, The Killing Season, the book Evil That Men Do and the podcast Happy Face, including little known facts about prolific killer Robert Ben Rhoades.

The docs finally find a fascinating way to talk about one of their favorite miniseries, Manhunt: Unabomber. They dish about the show itself and then relate Episode 6’s topics of Incels to Ted Kaczynski with a special guest. Retired FBI profiler and forensic linguist, James R. Fitzgerald gives his insight into Kaczynski’s sexual development and struggles which was revealed the Unabomber’s own personal writings.

Dr. Scott and Dr. Shiloh discuss one of their most interesting topics to date: Incels or the “involuntary celebates.” They talk about the origins and evolution of the incel community and touch on various flavors of diagnoses that appear to be prevalent with these individuals.

Dr. Scott will catch you up on the history and cultural aspects of possession, while Tammie gives you the receipts on the true story of possession that influenced the movie. Then Brice fills us in on the curse of the production of the film and Dr. Shiloh finishes this thrilling episode off with a tale of a serial killer likely linked to the film.

This episode centers around the criminal behaviors of Arson and the psychological disorder of Pyromania. After being contacted by Frank Girardot, the true crime author, about his recently released book Burned: Pyromania, Murder and a Daughter's Nightmare, Dr. Shiloh and Dr. Scott decided that it was timely to cover the story of John Orr, the most notorious serial arsonist.

Dr. Scott and Dr. Shiloh discuss the history of cults in Southern California and highlight some of the more historical and infamous groups from the Golden State. Dr. Scott tells his own story about being approached by the leader of Buddhafield (of Holy Hell fame) & Dr. Shiloh gives us some insight into the psychological profile of someone who joins a cult.
